Madrid, the great movie set

Most of you know Madrid for its tourist appeal, good food and fantastic temperature. Some of you may have even been in the city to spend a few days visiting museums, the Retiro Park or having a good dinner by taking the “Tapas” delicious small dishes. But, did you know that Madrid have been many times, set of worldwide famous movies?

The attractive city centre, which remains of ancient times, have acted as a perfect scenery for historic films such as “The fall of the roman empire” (1964), which used the city’s walls as a background for its battles. Also 8000 trained soldiers from the Spanish infantry participated in the film to double the roman fighters.

Another very remarkable example is “The Bourne Ultimatum”, starring by Matt Damon. In all the Bourne’s films, it is a kind of tradition to use a train station as the location for a scene. In this move, the chosen set was the Madrid’s train station, Atocha. It also quite funny to see one of the typical Madrid’s taxis appearing in the screen, especially for the Spanish viewers.

The five Oscar’s winner, “Doctor Zhivago” (1965) is one of the major cases of foreign films which decided to take Madrid for their locations. The streets of the capitals became, after professional “make up” and hard construction of entire buildings, the ones in Moscu. Only analysing accurately the pictures, we can recognise the exact place of Madrid, which belongs to the surroundings of the Canillas’ cemetery.

Other titles we should mention here are “55 days at Peking” (1963) or “The tourist”, directed by Marcel Langenegger, which was filmed in the Plaza Mayor and the Paseo del Prado.

As you can see, Madrid has secrets to be discovered. Its mysterious streets and majestic architecture make this city a good place to film in, becoming a beautiful set of outstanding movies.

After knowing all this, why not planning a tour through this city’s corners, to identify them with the ones you may probably have seen in the big screen? You can enjoy some days in the Spanish capital and have some rest in our Madrid luxury apartments. If you want to feel the activity and life of the centre, you better choose a Madrid city centre holiday flat. Or if you rather prefer more calm, you can take a look to other offers we have prepared for you, all of them with the most commodity, fashion-style and quality.

The Sagrada Familia

The Sagrada Familia, a majestic cathedral

There are many reasons to visit Barcelona. Some of them are the modernist buildings from the architect Antoni Gaudí, which have become the biggest treasure of the Catalan architecture.

Sagrada Familia

Sagrada Familia

The Sagrada Família Cathedral (The Sacred Family Cathedral) is the main example of Gaudí’s work, and one of the most impressive architectural buildings of the world, also considered the universal catholic temple. Recently transformed to a basilica by the Pope, its monumental construction process has been keeping on since 1882, when Gaudí started the greatest project of his career. The complexity of this work was so huge, that Gaudí never saw his masterpiece completed, as he died in 1926.

From then, different artists and architectures have joined the Sagrada Família crew, bringing to the temple their own style, while making an effort to preserve the unmistakable modernist beauty, which uses the nature as a constant source to be combined with the construction materials, emulating the real patterns and forms of  forests, trees, flowers and branches.

Privileged visitors have the chance to get an accommodation in the Sagrada Família area, known as “l’Eixample”. New-brand luxury apartments are located in the surroundings of the temple, allowing the guests to enjoy the views, and the life of Barcelona’s centre. The towers of the cathedral can be seen from sea, air and from many locations of the city. That’s why the Sagrada Familia has become the heart of Barcelona.

The Sagrada Família was designed as an enormous alive holly book. Each element of its body is dedicated to a character, cycle or symbol of the Christian religion: We find, for example, the frontage of the Jesus’ Born, preciously decorated with statues representing the three kings’ adoration, the shepherd’s adoration, and the sacred family in the centre; we also find the Passion frontage, with sculptures from Subirachs, whose style is clearly different from the first door, but still respects the Gaudi’s unconventional signature.

Sagrada familia passion

Sagrada familia passion

Inside the temple, every column is linked with a Catalan, Spanish or worldwide diocese, responding to the Gaudí’s aim to concentrate in the same place, all the world Christian faith.

Observing the temple from the outside is a well worth journey to another universe: Thousands of details remain in the walls, some of them hided symbols which persuade the visitor to figure out their own story. Going inside is travelling even much further: the characteristic natural aesthetic comes to its greatest expression through the very tall tree-columns, and flower-full domes. The colorful windows play with the light to bring the sun inside the building and create a warm praying space, where life, art, faith and nature, become all the same.

Sagrada Familia Portal

There is no better experience than getting in touch with the most artistic and beautiful God’s House of the world, by choosing a Sagrada Familia apartment to stay during your days in Barcelona. Near the temple, with all the facilities and a very cool decoration, these flats to rent in the Sagrada Familia zone are exclusive for those who are looking for a unique and unforgettable holidays in the capital of the modernism artistic movement.
