From 26 June to 12 July, Barcelona will be the international capital of creativity and design with FADfest.
FADfest is the FAD’s annual event celebrating creative excellence. It recognises the work of professionals and businesses and brings design closer to the citizens.

A showcase in which to discover the best proposals of the year in architecture, interior design, graphic design, advertising, industrial design, the handicrafts, art and fashion that is held in Barcelona between 26 June and 12 July as part of the Barcelona Design Festival, which continues until October 2012.

This is the most important design meeting in Barcelona. The FAD awards will be presented at the festival, where more than 500 works by the finalists will go on display. To enjoy the works of the winners and finalists in the different prizes, you’ll have to visit the “FADexpo: the best design of the year”, which will remain open until 22 september at the FAD headquarters (Pl. dels Àngels 5-6 of Barcelona). The second edition of the FADfest will be a fortnight filled with prizes, conferences, debates, talks and many other activities connected with design.

Barcelona has a long tradition of places dedicated to jazz music. The Barcelona Jazz Festival, scheduled between October and December, is now in its 44th edition and every year hosts the world’s best performers from around the world. The Palau de la Música, Luz de Gas, and the Auditorium are some of the many stages for this international review.

But the small places of the ciy make really great the jazz circuit of Barcelona.

Jazzsí is a small cozy place at a stone’s throw from mercat Sant Antoni at calle Requesens 2, where different days different types of live music are preformed. So if you are in the city and looking for a great evening in Barcelona with Jazz or flamenco this it’s a must to go. You have to be early, at 20:30 it opens and then be patient because the music starts at 22:00 and the place will be packed, you won’t regret it.

Jazz bar Jamboree is an historic place, since the late ’50. It’s a small and cozy place where you have to be in time to be able to get in. Next to las Ramblas and our city center apartments, there is Plaça Reial. This will be the tenth edition of Sala Montjuïc, an open-air festival, with a selection of the best movies of all time, concerts, picnics and short films.

Before each screening there is usually live music. On the 10th edition of Sala Montjuïc you’ll have the posibility to listening to jazz, bogaloo, soul, balkan, brazilian and many more genrs.

You can reach the Montjuïc Castel by car, motorbike, Montjuïc “teleférico” or by bike. TMB buses starts from the Towers on Plaza Espanya from 20.30 (free with the TMB integrated tariff) and they go back down once the film is finished.
The entrance is 5,00 euros, and the deck-chair rental is 3,00 euros. 2,000 tickets are available at the box office each day, starting at 20.30 and advance sales (5.50 €) on the website, mobile app o on Atrápalo.

If it rains, the organisation will not return the entrance fee or the deckchair rental fee. However, if the session is cancelled for technical reasons, the entrance will be valid for another day if the ticket is shown at the ticket sales.

This is the 17th year of the “Music in the Parks“, a great annual series of free-concerts located in many parks and gardens of the city.

The concerts are organized by the Barcelona City Council and the programme is a good mix of classica and jazz music.
If you are a jazz lover, you can find jazz amazing and free concerts from June to August on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10pm in Ciutadella park in front of the fountain. In July, young musicians perform a varied classical concert programme from Thursday to Saturday in various parks.

“La revetlla de Sant Joan” is the night of Saint John in Barcelona, which is the the midsummer solstice celebration on 23rd June. The day after, on 24th June, is “El día de Sant Joan“, that is is a public holiday in Barcelona and Spain.

Sant Joan in Spain marks the start of the summer. This is is the midsummer solstice celebration, which is the day that has the longest period of daylight in the year. Sant Joan maybe is the biggest party in Barcelona. Since it is the longest day of the year, on the 23rd of June there are huge parties all over Barcelona.

The most important element of the festival of Sant Joan is fire. The traditonal flame to light the bonfires is called “La Flama del Canigó“. You can participate in the rituals of fire purification on Sant Joan: you have to burn something in the Sant Joan fire, and it will cleanse your sins and rid you of bad luck. Old furniture is often used for the bonfire to symbolise a gesture of “out with the old – in with the new!”.

Barcelona is especially known for the sea, but it’s also a mountain town and its best held between mountain and sea: the Montjuic.

Montjuic is an oasis of tranquility, where you can forget the big city and get lost in the perfumes of pines and sea air. Close to the medieval Castle that dominates the promontory, there’s one of the best kept secret of Barcelona: la Caseta del Migdia, a summer bar and restaurant, perfect for listening good music and take a drink under the trees, overlooking the sea. It’s not so easy to reach, because it’s on the top of the mountain. You have to take a bus from Plaza España or a taxi, but this is necessary to have some privacy in Barcelona.

Besides the well-known Olympic Stadium, the botanic garden and all the buildings created for the Olympic Games in 1992, Montjuic was also the protagonist of the other great event that changed the face of Barcelona: the World Exhibition in 1929, when the Poble Espanyol was built.

Josep Puig i Cadafalch had the idea for the museum: a town in which the architecture, style, and culture of various locations from around Spain were preserved in a single place. Poble español is divided into different sections, which were designed by two architects who travelled trough the entire country. Except for Mallorca, they saw every region to design the Spanish Village. The Poble Espanyol gives you the possibility to experience Spanish culture in a unique manner.

Poble Espanyol is home to art galleries, museums, a children’s village, shops, and artisans who use the town as their base of operations. It’s an open-air museum of architecture, that occupies a total area of 42,000 m2, featuring replicas of 117 buildings, streets and squares from the Spanish territory. There are 40 craft workshops, 22 shops, 12 restaurants, and 1 Flamenco show. Also, there are more than 300 works of contemporary art in a permanent collection. It’s a perfect setting for a family outing and no matter how old you are, you’ll love watching the glass blowers, ceramic artisans, guitar makers, painters and sculptors as they work on their projects in full public view.

During the night the village turns into a place to go for party and people who want to have a nice dinner, a drink or dancing in La Terrazza, one of the best disco of the city. The best thing to find out, where to go and what to do, is to check the official website.
