3 movies filmed in Barcelona
Barcelona might not be the typical famous film location, but in recent years some productions have chosen the city as their scenario. This fact doesn’t come as a surprise to us, Barcelona is full of beautiful buildings and has a magical atmosphere. For this reason, we have selected three films -some of them, iconic- filmed in Barcelona that let us see a balanced overview of what the city is all about. Lights, camera, action!
Vicky Cristina Barcelona (Woody Allen) - Scarlett Johansson, Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem form the perfect trio in this Woody Allen film. As the title suggests, two girls and Barcelona are involved. This romantic comedy tells the story of two girlfriends on their summer holidays in Spain who fall in love with the same painter. In the film several locations such as the Santa Maria del Mar Church or Passeig de Gràcia appear.
All about my mother (Pedro Almodóvar) - Pedro Almodóvar also chose Barcelona as the stage for two of his films: All about my mother (año) and The bad education (año). The first of the two takes place right in the centre of Barcelona and lets us see different stages. For instance, you will get to see the Sagrada Familia, Montjuïc Cemetery, Colón, Teatre Tívoli or Casa Ramos, located in the Barrio de Gràcia.
Perfume: The story of a Murderer (Tom Tykwer) - This film is the adaptation of the bestseller Perfume: The story of a murderer by Patrick Suskind. Even though the novel is set in Paris of the eighteenth century, some parts of the movie were filmed in the Gothic Quarter and Poble Espanyol in Barcelona, as well as other locations outside the city, like Girona or Figueres.
These films are really nice to watch after you’ve been in Barcelona and try guessing the familiar spots. If this is not your case, these movies will be a great inspiration for your upcoming visit to Barcelona
