Barcelona’s top 3 running spots
When you are on holidays in Barcelona, you will notice that eating and drinking is a big part of life here in Spain. Lavish lunches, good bottles of wine, perfect paellas and terrific tapas are to be found in abundance. And when you are on holidays there is no reason not to indulge. But then again, it is summertime and of course you want to flaunt your tanned skin in that nice summer outfit you bought especially for your Barcelona trip. So if you are keen to do some exercise while on holidays, here are our top 3 running spots in the city.
1) Our favourite place for a run is Montjuïc. Montjuïc is a hill right next to the city centre. There are parts of it that are relatively flat but also steep bits and stairs so it’s a great place for a good varied workout. There is plenty of space to do stretches and there is grass if you want to do some exercises in between your run. In the warm summer months you often get a nice breeze here and there are trees that provide shade. It is also a very beautiful place to go running, we always enjoy the lovely views and the plants and fountains we run past. Another plus is that Montjuïc is very centrally located.
2) Another popular running spot is the seafront. There is a long path all the way along the beaches of Barcelona, the whole stretch is about 4.5 kilometres. Along the way you will find workout stations where you can do chin-ups, sit-ups and other exercises. And the view over the Mediterranean is of course always beautiful! If you want to work out along the coast we suggest to go quite early so that it won’t be too busy with beachgoers.
3) Our third spot of choice requires a bit more travelling. It is the Carretera de les Aigües. This fantastic track with stunning views over the city is situated in the Collserola National Park. The total length of this track is around 10 kilometres and it’s quite horizontal, which makes this a great track for running. An added bonus is that there are not many people here and no noisy traffic. A place to not only do your exercise but also relax your mind and enjoy the scenery.
