Best beaches in Barcelona

Best beaches in Barcelona

Barcelona is fantastic for those who enjoy beach life. It has beautiful beaches that run along the coastline for many kilometres. They all have the blue flag for water quality and services. The easiest way to get to the beach is by walking if you are close by (the closest beach is about 25 minutes walking from Plaça Catalunya), or by taking the yellow metro line L4. Here we have listed a few of the city beaches:

Barceloneta Beach - This is probably the most famous one of them all, considering the proximity to the city center. It tends to be quite crowded, but it also boasts the largest amount of restaurants and bars. Particularly the beachside bars, the chiringuitos, are perfect when you want to cool down with a cold drink or when you are feeling hungry. At night there are plenty of night clubs that open their doors to everyone looking to party.

Nova Mar Bella - If you like to let it all hang out, then Nova Mar Bella is one of the two nudist beaches in the city and worth a visit for those who avoid tan lines. This beach is a lot calmer than the Barceloneta, and attracts the gay community too. Very close by is the Rambla del Poblenou, a long stretch of restaurants and bars for when you get hungry or thirsty.

Bogatell - This beach is preferred by many locals, and many older people from around the neighbourhood come here to spend the day. The area was restored for the 1992 Olympics, and the beach has showers, ramps for accessibility and lifeguards.

San Sebastià - Together with the Barcelona beach San Sebastià is one of the oldest and most traditional beaches in the city. It is also one of the longest, and houses swim clubs and a surf school. The beach is very easily accessible for those with reduced mobility with reserved parking areas, adapted toilets and visual and tactile signs and information.

Llevant - The newest and northernmost beach is Llevant, completed in 2006. It has an area reserved for dogs which is much appreciated among the local dog owners. There is also a volleyball court and is a good spot if you are looking for a bit more peace and quiet, since it is a bit further away from the busy beaches closer to the city center.
