Calçots in the city

Calçots in the city

It is calçots season! How can an onion taste so good? If you have not tried it yet, now is the season. Even if you are not a big fan of onions fear not, the calçot is much sweeter and smoother in its taste. And don not forget to dip them in the romesco sauce!

Usually calçots are eaten at barbeque parties with a group of friends somewhere far away from the city. But it certainly is not a requirement, and maybe we prefer to have calçots for a romantic dinner instead, or we feel lazy and cannot be bothered taking the car anywhere and favor public transport. Here are a few suggestions where you can go and eat calçots right here in the city center:

El Jardi de l´Àpat – They are famous for their calçotadas and they have two terraces too, in case you prefer to sit outside and feel like you are far away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Can Xurrades – Meat is their specialty but you can be sure they have excellent calçots too!

Can Travi Nou – We adore this place, it is a beautiful restaurant up on the hills but it is easily reached with the metro. The food is local and authentic and it is a good place to have calçots when they are in season.

El Disbarat – We love Gracia, and so do most people that live there too. And why would you want to leave your neighbourhood to go anywhere, really? So obviously you can find a restaurant here that serves calçots. El Disbarat has a very authentic feel to it, and it is very cosy too.

L’Antic Forn – Just a hop and a skip away from the Ramblas you can find this restaurant that do a proper calçotada with bib and all. Their romesco sauce is delicious.

Restaurant Carmen – This place is a classic in Sants, and they do an excellent calçotada, also for groups.
