X Games Barcelona

Barcelona will witness one of the most spectacular sporting events that have passed through catalan capital in the last decades. And the world’s biggest competition of action sports comes to Montjuic from 16 to May 19: the X Games Barcelona. A sporting event, billed as the Olympic Games of extreme sports, which come to Europe for the first time since 1995 after being celebrated in different parts of the United States.

Last year, with the bet to expand globally by ESPN -producer who directs and manages the X Games-, Barcelona, along with Foz de Iguaçu and Munich, were selected, in addition to Los Angeles, to celebrate the X Games in 2013.
So, after the X Games become one of the most viewed sporting events with 80 million viewers, Barcelona will have the opportunity to see the best riders in the world compete for the medals made in 15 different ways. So legends like Travis Pastrana (RallyCross), Robbie Maddison (Moto X), Nate Adams (Moto X), Bob Burnquist (Skate), Paul Rodriguez (Skate) or Ken Block (RallyCross), among others, will be in the X Games Barcelona. And beside them, local athletes as Moto X rider Dany Torres, who already knows what it is to get a medal at the X Games, Edgar Torronteras (Moto X), Sergio Layos (BMX Street) or Fran Molina (Skate) will everything possible to make stay at home medals.
But if all this were not enough, the X Games Barcelona also offer much more than sport. As is the case with X Music, a music festival to be held on May 18 at the Poble Espanyol and which will be attended by artists such as 50 Cent, Nach or Zedd. The Grec Festival of Barcelona 2013 is about to begin! The Grec Festival of Barcelona is an international theatre, dance, music and circus festival. Over the course of its history, this long-standing event, which will take place for the thirty-seven time in 2013, has become not only the major summer attraction in Barcelona, but also a reference on the European performing arts calendar.

The festival takes its name from its main venue: an open-air theatre (the Teatre Grec) built on Mount Montjuïc for the 1929 Universal Exhibition. At first, this “Greek Theatre” was the only venue used for festival productions, but, today, the Grec programme embraces many other theatres, cultural facilities and public spaces all over the city of Barcelona.
The festival, which will take place from July 1 to 31, will include several new initiatives, including a season aimed specifically at family audiences: this MiniGrec, as it is known, will feature thirteen productions at seven Barcelona theatres, including such shows as “El petit Dalí” and “Perduts a la Viquipèdia”.

A circus show with music by Shostakovich? That is what we can look forward to in “Opus”, by Circa, a company that our city has taken to its heart and which will open the festival at the Teatre Grec on July 1 and 2 this year. In this show, the Australian company explore the language of the circus, their breath-taking acrobatic skills accompanied by the Russian composer’s string quartets, performed live by Quatuor Debussy.
But “Opus” is just one of the shows on the Grec 2013 programme revealed in the first advance preview. Audiences at the Teatre Grec will enjoy a choral show starring one hundred anonymous Barcelona women (“100Femmes”, July 19); whilst Marc Rosich and Josep M. Pou will take them on a journey into the intimate world of Marguerite Yourcenar in “Fuegos” (July 26-28); and the venue will also host a show created by theatre schools from three major European cities (“Utopies”, July 9).
The festival dance programme sees the return of one of the international choreographers most acclaimed by Barcelona audiences: Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, whose “Puz/zle” (Teatre Grec, July 15 and 16) speaks to us, through dance, about the beauty of fusion. In another outstanding choreography, “L’ADN de l’ànima”, the Catalan dancers Mudit Grau and Ramón Giménez will explore the world of feelings (Teatre Grec, July 6 and 7).
Turning now to music, the Municipal Band of Barcelona will team up with the Catalan actress Lloll Bertran in a truly unusual concert entitled “Bandalismes” (Teatre Grec, July 12). The festival programme also features such renowned artists as: Diego “El Cigala” (Teatre Grec, July 10); Jorge Pardo (Teatre Grec, July 22), Kiko Veneno (Teatre Grec, July 31); Buika (Teatre Grec, July 21); and Wynton Marsalis with The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, celebrating the band’s twenty-fifth anniversary at the Teatre Grec on July 17. Catalan music will be represented by Blaumut (Teatre Grec, July 30) and Ja t’ho diré (Teatre Grec, July 3), a band returning to Barcelona as part of a short one-off tour.
The Grec 2013 programme will also include activities aimed at professionals in the theatre world, including the International Performing Arts Meeting, whose purpose is to boost the Catalan theatre internationally. Amongst educational events, we can highlight the Sala Beckett’s summer workshop, held at a new venue in Poblenou this year, and taking anger as its theme; as well as activities aimed directly at audiences, such as the “Spectator Workshop”, which offers fresh insight for theatre-goers; and “Explica dansa” (“Modern Dance Speaks!”), presented by the choreographer Toni Jodar.
Festival-goers are reminded that tickets for shows at the Teatre Grec will be available online and at Tiquet de Rambles box offices in the Palau de la Virreina from May 2. The full festival programme will be revealed in late-May, when tickets for all other productions will also go on sale, at www.bcn.cat/grec.

After than the Barcelona Marathon and the Corte Inglés Race, Barcelona has a new run on its streets. On May 26, the Avenida Diagonal, the most exclusive street in the city, will be filled with runners taking part in the first race organized by the police of Barcelona. Hundreds of people will run for the first time on the most prestigious street of the city.

The race measure 10 kilometers, a distance approved by the Catalan Athletics Federation, with the goal to promote the practice of physical exercise. This is the first time in wich people can run down the center of the Diagonal. The race will begin at 8:30 pm on Sunday May 26 at Avenida Diagonal, at the height of the Royal Palace and will run throughout the centre of the street until reaching the Selva de Mar Street, in the Diagonal Mar District, next to Rent Top Apartments‘ s head office.

The race is unique in Barcelona, because it is the first time that people will be able tu run throughout all the Diagonal and the track has the distinction of being completely straight up to the Forum. So the arrival and departure points of the race will be differents, with a logistics structure that will allow the participants to collect their belongings as soon as they’ll reach the goal.

Registrations are now open on the website of the race www.dir.cat/cursa-barcelona with a price of 15 euros or 17. Participants will receive a T-shirt and gifts from sponsors on May 24th and 15th at the Runner Fair, that will be located in the gardens of DiR Diagonal, the Barcelona Police headquarter.

D’A 2013-Festival Internacional de Cinema d’Autor de Barcelona

Today starts the Festival Internacional de Cinema d’Autor de Barcelona (D’A 2013), Barcelona International Author Film Festival, that will screen an international panorama of the finest contemporary auteur cinema, combining the discovery of emerging new talents and cinematographies with internationally established directors and films that have traditionally received rough treatment from our country’s commercial distributors.

From april 25 to May 2 The Festival Internacional de Cinema d’Autor de Barcelona will leave in three venues of the city: Cinema Aribau (Eixample), CCCB y Filmoteca de Catalunya (Raval). Structured into different sections, the Festival will screen more than 50 films featuring the best films from the international independent cinema circuit and a review of the Romanian contemporary cinema.
The Festival Internacional de Cinema d’Autor de Barcelona is organised by Noucinemart, a film promoter specialized in the promotion and diffusion of the best contemporary cinema. The Noucinemart’s team has 15 years of experience organising different film events, such as the Barcelona Asian Film Festival – BAFF (12 editions held) and the CineAmbigú independent cinema programme (12 editions).
The almost fifty films on show at the festival are distributed into different sections, with the main section, Directions, containing the finest productions of the year. The films in this section include some major names in independent contemporary cinema. There will be a section dedicated to rookie directors called Talents, a showcase for new and emerging film-makers with no more than two feature length pictures to their name.

Created in 1994, Sonar is a pioneering festival with a unique format and content. Pentecost is celebrated seven weeks (50 days) after Easter Sunday, hence its name. Pentecost falls on the tenth day after Ascension Thursday.

Among Christians, Pentecost commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Twelve Apostles and other followers of Jesus. For this reason, Pentecost is sometimes described by some Christians today as the “Birthday of the Church.”
In Christian tradition Pentecost is part of the Moveable Cycle of the ecclesiastical year. According to Christian tradition, Pentecost is always seven weeks after Easter Sunday; that is to say, 50 days after Easter (inclusive of Easter Day). In other words, it falls on the eighth Sunday, counting Easter Day.
In the West, the earliest possible date is May 10 (as in 1818 and 2285), and the latest possible date June 13 (as in 1943 and 2038). Pentecost Monday is a public holiday in many European countries including Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania (since 2008), (most parts of) Switzerland, Ukraine and also in the African nations Senegal, Benin and Togo.
In the United Kingdom the day is known as Whit Monday, and was a bank holiday until 1967 when it was replaced by the Spring Bank Holiday.

In Spain it’s not a public holiday, but yes it is in Barcelona. Particulary in the Barceloneta quarter and this year will be Monday, May 20.

In Barcelona Pentecost is also called the Second Pasqua or Pasqua Granada, but in particular, in the Barceloneta is known as the Salseta. 27 bars and restaurants of the historic fishing district of the city, organize choirs and big bands with drums and trumpets, wich continually runs the narrow streets of the neighborhood all day long and untill late night, playing and dancing on the street. The 37th International Motor Show of Barcelona, which will be held in Fira’s Montjuïc exhibition centre, from 11 to 19 May, will feature many manufacturers that will present around thirty new world, European and national premiers. The new models are a big attraction for visitors and an aid to reactivating the sector. The show will coincide with the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix, which will take place on the Circuit de Catalunya, turning the city of Barcelona in the world motor capital.

During these nine days, companies belonging to the Asociación Española de Fabricantes de Automóviles y Camiones (ANFAC) and the Asociación Nacional de Importadores de Automóviles, Camiones, Autobuses y Motocicletas (ANIACAM) will be participating.
The show’s president, Enrique Lacalle, said that “in today’s difficult economic climate, it is no secret that the complexities involved in the organisation of an event of this magnitude are accentuated. But the strength of the Barcelona Motor Show, together with the constant effort of those of us who work in it and the collaboration of the manufacturers and their associations, has made it possible for us to make Barcelona one of the leading international showcases for the automobile industry”.
