Throughout Spain, summer is the season for the Fiestas Mayores. That is an annual local festivals held throughout Spain and Catalonia. Obviously, Barcelona is not an exception.
Many of the city’s neighbourhoods are packed with every kind of activities, as concerts, children activities, street theatre and many more. So, do not be surprised if during your holiday in Barcelona, suddenly you will find people dancing and singing through the streets of the city. Another typical event of the Fiestas Mayores is the organization of tradicional dinner, in which all the people eat and drink in the streets of his neighborhood.
There will be spectacular ones, over a hundred years old, highly popular ones that are more down to earth, some taking place in June, others in July, August or September. A host of people, local residents, working to keenly and enthusiastically think up, prepare and organise a good many events and activities for promoting relations between the people as well as good neighbourliness. Their programmes are sure to include activities to suit every taste, for all ages and every kind of visitor.
In July the most popular Fiestas are in neighborhoods of Raval (12-15 July) and Poble Sec (14-22 July). Then, in august, it will be the time for the Fiestas Mayores of Grácia (15-21 August), maybe the biggest and craziest neighborhoods party of the city, and Sants (18-26 August).
Finally, in september (21-24) it will be the greatest celebration of the Catalonia’s capital: La Mercè. As every year, this enormous event will surprise the participants with an extremely long menu of activities for all kind of people.
