Tradition, music and culture are the three pillars of the Mercè. Human towers, traditional dances, a parade of giants or fire-breathing dragons, among others, are main examples of traditional Catalan culture. Also, it’s very important to keep in mind that the correfoc (fire run) will take place on Sunday, the 21st of September on Via Laietana.

Barcelona has always been a city with diverse musical culture in which music plays an important role during the Mercè Festival. The line-up is divided first into a series of concerts programmed for all audiences whereas BAM (Barcelona Acció Musical) is an independent music festival that features more than 60 musical events scheduled on about 10 stages featuring a massive following that reaches 500,000 spectators each edition.

Finally, La Mercè Street Arts is an arts festival in which all kinds of theatrical performances take place. In the “Parc del Circ de la Ciutadella” you can find all kinds of shows from any background of street theater, especially the circus. Moreover, “El Mercè a banda”, held on Las Ramblas of Barcelona, specializes in touring musical proposals.
