After than the Barcelona Marathon and the Corte Inglés Race, Barcelona has a new run on its streets. On May 26, the Avenida Diagonal, the most exclusive street in the city, will be filled with runners taking part in the first race organized by the police of Barcelona. Hundreds of people will run for the first time on the most prestigious street of the city.

The race measure 10 kilometers, a distance approved by the Catalan Athletics Federation, with the goal to promote the practice of physical exercise. This is the first time in wich people can run down the center of the Diagonal. The race will begin at 8:30 pm on Sunday May 26 at Avenida Diagonal, at the height of the Royal Palace and will run throughout the centre of the street until reaching the Selva de Mar Street, in the Diagonal Mar District, next to Rent Top Apartments‘ s head office.

The race is unique in Barcelona, because it is the first time that people will be able tu run throughout all the Diagonal and the track has the distinction of being completely straight up to the Forum. So the arrival and departure points of the race will be differents, with a logistics structure that will allow the participants to collect their belongings as soon as they’ll reach the goal.

The April Fair of Catalonia, (Feria de abril de Cataluña), is an annual event held in Barcelona. It usually takes place over the last week of April and the first week of May. It’s one of the main event of the Spring in Barcelona. The 2013 edition of the Feria de Abril de Cataluña will be from from Friday 26th Abril to Sunday 5th May 2013.

Holiday in Spain

In 1971, immigrants to Barcelona from Andalusia, and their descendants, began their own version of the worldwide known Seville Fair, Feria de abril de Sevilla. Since then the Barcelona event has grown to become the second largest Spring Fair in Spain.
The fair is currently held at the Parc del Fòrum fairgrounds, in the Diagonal Mar district of Barcelona, a large area on the shores of the Mediterranean, which is covered with rows of casetas, colorfully decorated marquee tents which are temporarily set up. Most of the casetas are sponsored by cultural associations created by and for Andalusian immigrants and their descendants. There are also casetas sponsored by the cultural associations of other ethnic groups, such as Latin Americans and Moroccans, as well as others sponsored by political parties.
A major difference between the Barcelona and Seville events is that the casetas in Barcelona are completely open to the public. In the casetas, food and drink are served, people either dance on dance floors, or are entertained by musical performances, usually by flamenco dancers and singers.
Throughout the fairground, many men, women and children walk around dressed in traditional “trajes de corto” (short jacket, tight trousers and boots) and “trajes de flamenco” (flamenco style dresses).
The main sponsoring organization is FECAC, the Federation of Andalusian Cultural Groups in Catalonia, or Federación de Entidades Culturales Andaluzas en Cataluña.
The Feria de Abril of Barcelona takes place in a set of about 70 casetas, mainly devoted to leisure, dance, and restoration. Inspired by its Andalusian origin and customs of the South of Spain, in the April Fair of Seville and Barcelona flamenco and sevillana are the music that dominates the event. You can also meet other andalusian elements, as are traditional costumes, food and drinks as rebujito or “pescaíto” fried.
The area is divided into two parts, which occupy a total area of more than 10 hectáreas. The main part, the “Real” is the set of the casetas.
Another sector of the enclosure is called “Calle del Infierno”. It is dedicated to fairground rides, raffles and other entertainment.

ENETS (European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society) will hold its 10th Annual Conference in Barcelona, 6-8 March 2013. The conference venue is the Centro de Convenciones Internacional de Barcelona (CCIB).

The preliminary program includes a postgraduate course and keynote talk by ENETS Chairman Kjell Öberg, Meet the Professor sessions and lectures on histopathology, clinical trials, lung NETs, rare tumors, and surgery, as well as abstract sessions and nurses symposium. The deadline to submit an abstract was 9 December 2012 and no late submissions are being accepted. All ENETS members are welcome and anyone else interested in NET research and clinical practice to attend the conference.

The ENETS 2013 Annual Conference has been awarded 16 European CME credits by the EACCME.
The Society is also pleased to announce, in cooperation with Ipsen Pharma and in connection with the ENETS 2013 Barcelona conference, its 2013 Excellence in Translational Medicine in GEP-NET Disease fellowship. The Neanderthal is the guest of honor at an unprecedented exhibition, enigmatic, fascinating, amazing and realistic. The recreation of a genuine natural environment shows sequences of this man’s life in a stage area of 1,300 square meters. This exhibition offers a world of information, untill to reach the heart of things. In effect, it has been prepared with great scientific rigor. So you have realistic scenes, animated images and sound editing that provide a more intense feeling to this exhibition.

The Neanderthal receives visitors at his home, built with clavicles and defenses against the mammoths. He will share with you his daily lives. The Prehistoric Tour hopes to convert its visitors into apasionated of the Great History of the Man and to answer all their questions.

This exhibition, as usual, was born from the passion of a group of scientific friends, fans of the Neanderthal era. It was conceived and carried out with the help of plastic artist Dick Claesen and his colleague Ludo Vermeulen. With the help of Richard Neave, medical-plastic artist at the Manchester University, known for his recreations of historical figures, they have reproduced with lifelike some typical scenes of this era.

Following the great success of this exhibition in France, ratified by more than 600,000 visitors, the organizers have decided to present it to the whole of Europe, in those cities better known for its cultural life, as Barcelona.

The 26th Annual Meeting of the the European Association of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery EACTS will be held from Saturday 27 to Wednesday 31 October in Barcelona, Spain.
The European Association of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery wants to work with other organisations towards a global culture of data collection to create a European wide repository of information on the practice of cardio-thoracic surgery as a tool for quality improvement and to disseminate that information in such a way that is easily accessible and understandable to our patients and the public.

26th EACTS in Barcelona

The Techno-College of EACTS will be held from 08:00-18:00 on Saturday 27 October. Postgraduate Courses will be held all day on Sunday 28 October from 08:30 to 16:30. The main scientific programme will commence at 08:30 on Monday 29 October and end at 13:00 on Wednesday 31 October. The aim of the Spanish Society of Ophthalmology Congress is to highlight the presentation of the official paper “Current state of the strabismus treatment”, which will be borne by the Doctors Alicia Galán and José Visa. And even the reading of the paper: “Current state of cataract surgery with femtosecond laser. Comparative study”, by the doctors Alfonso Arias and Miguel A. Zato.
Finally, the focus of the Congress will be directed on the roundtable “Advances in the diagnosis and treatment of intraocular infections“, moderated by Prof. Alfredo Adán.
