There has been a spectacular increase in the number of feature films, for cinema and television, filmed in the city’s streets and environs, firmly establishing Barcelona as a movie city. As part of this interconnected framework of city, tourism and film, Turisme de Barcelona and the Escola Universitària d’Hoteleria i Turisme CETT-UB, are launching a series of themed itineraries about films shot in Barcelona and aim to expand them at a later date to include all kinds of information about Barcelona and film.
The themed itineraries, called Barcelona Movie Walks, offer a whole host of information about the film in question: synopsis, cast and crew, the main awards won and a “Did you know?” section including snippets of information and anecdotes about the film. Each tour has a map featuring the locations/tourist attractions on the route. The map also provides the following information about each of the tourist attractions:

• Historic information about the landmark/attraction: detailed information about the location.
• Get to know the area in greater depth: complementary information about the area where the landmark/attraction is located.

Luxury holiday in Barcelona

The Palau Nacional, the emblematic building of the 1929 International Exhibition, is the home of the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya. It is situated on the mountain of Montjuïc, a privileged site from where you can enjoy a magnificent and unique view of the city of Barcelona.

The MNAC embraces all the arts (sculpture, painting, objets d’art, drawing, engraving, posters, photography and coinage) and has the task of explaining the general history of Catalan art from the Romanesque period to the mid-twentieth century. With regard to the Renaissance and Baroque collections, the works included lead to a more international discourse, with the work of great painters, such as El Greco, Zurbarán, Velázquez, Cranach, Rubens… The MNAC art collections from the end of the nineteenth century and the early decades of the twentieth century are once again mostly made up of the work of Catalan artists, forming a discourse which explains Modernisme, Noucentisme and the Avant-garde, always taking into account all the arts.

From April 19th to September 15th 2013, the Mnac hosts the exhibition of the immense canvas The Battle of Tetouan (1863 – 1865), realised by Marià Fortuny, has become an icon of our cultural imagination. On occasion of the 175th anniversary of the artist’s birth, the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya joins the acts of commemoration with an exhibition providing the viewer with a range of perspectives in understanding the richness and complexity of this great composition. More than 130 pieces occupy the space where Fortuny’s great work has been displayed since 2004.
A further section is dedicated to Salvador Dalí, author of a version of the Battle of Tetouan which was exhibited alongside the homonymous work by Fortuny in the Saló del Tinell in the year 1962.

A series of photographs of Dalí’s work and some of his preparatory drawings recall this event. In addition, the exhibition features major loans from important public and private collections, like those of the Real Biblioteca de Madrid, the Fundación Lázaro Galdiano, el Museo Nacional del Prado or the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí of Figueres. GP de Catalunya 2013

The Circuit de Catalunya is a motorsport race track in Montmeló, to the north of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The Circuit was built in 1991 and began hosting the Spanish Grand Prix that same year. Construction also coincided with the Olympic Games scheduled to take place in Barcelona the next year, where the circuit acted as the start and finish line for the road team time trial cycling event. The Circuit de Catalunya is the heir of the Montjuïc circuit, which hosted the Spanish Grand Prix between 1969 and 1975 and within the city of Barcelona.

The circuit has been the site of some memorable moments. In 1991, Ayrton Senna and Nigel Mansell went down the entire front straight side-by-side while duelling for second place, with Mansell eventually taking the position and ultimately the race itself. In 1994, Michael Schumacher managed to finish in second place despite driving over half the race with only fifth gear. In 1996, Schumacher took his first win as a Ferrari driver, after a dominant performance during a torrential rainstorm. At the 2006 event, Fernando Alonso became the first Spanish Formula One driver to win at his home country’s track. All info on the official webpage.

Feria de Abril of Barcelona

The April Fair of Catalonia, (Feria de abril de Cataluña), is an annual event held in Barcelona. It usually takes place over the last week of April and the first week of May. It’s one of the main event of the Spring in Barcelona. The 2013 edition of the Feria de Abril de Cataluña will be from from Friday 26th Abril to Sunday 5th May 2013.

Holiday in Spain

In 1971, immigrants to Barcelona from Andalusia, and their descendants, began their own version of the worldwide known Seville Fair, Feria de abril de Sevilla. Since then the Barcelona event has grown to become the second largest Spring Fair in Spain.
The fair is currently held at the Parc del Fòrum fairgrounds, in the Diagonal Mar district of Barcelona, a large area on the shores of the Mediterranean, which is covered with rows of casetas, colorfully decorated marquee tents which are temporarily set up. Most of the casetas are sponsored by cultural associations created by and for Andalusian immigrants and their descendants. There are also casetas sponsored by the cultural associations of other ethnic groups, such as Latin Americans and Moroccans, as well as others sponsored by political parties.
A major difference between the Barcelona and Seville events is that the casetas in Barcelona are completely open to the public. In the casetas, food and drink are served, people either dance on dance floors, or are entertained by musical performances, usually by flamenco dancers and singers.
Throughout the fairground, many men, women and children walk around dressed in traditional “trajes de corto” (short jacket, tight trousers and boots) and “trajes de flamenco” (flamenco style dresses).
The main sponsoring organization is FECAC, the Federation of Andalusian Cultural Groups in Catalonia, or Federación de Entidades Culturales Andaluzas en Cataluña.
The Feria de Abril of Barcelona takes place in a set of about 70 casetas, mainly devoted to leisure, dance, and restoration. Inspired by its Andalusian origin and customs of the South of Spain, in the April Fair of Seville and Barcelona flamenco and sevillana are the music that dominates the event. You can also meet other andalusian elements, as are traditional costumes, food and drinks as rebujito or “pescaíto” fried.
The area is divided into two parts, which occupy a total area of more than 10 hectáreas. The main part, the “Real” is the set of the casetas.
Another sector of the enclosure is called “Calle del Infierno”. It is dedicated to fairground rides, raffles and other entertainment.

Feria de Abril of Barcelona

The Feria de Abril of Barcelona is a feast of colour, music, food, dancing and fun fair attractions. The Feria de Abril of Barcelona has an fairground with a big ferris wheel and plenty of the usual fairground attractions, directly on the seafront of Barcelona. At the Feria de Abril, you can find endless traditional opportunities, where you can taste delicacies from all over Spain. But most of all, you can dance. Each big tent it houses a restaurant and a dance floor for the sevillana, a typical dance from Andalusia. There will also be a lady in traditional dress wishing to teach you to dance…
Come to visit Barcelona and you can participate in one of the most traditional festivals in Spain. Rent one of our bright and luxurious apartments with a sea view on the Diagonal Mar District and you will be very close to the Feria de Abril of Barcelona.

Espaisucre, the sweetest restaurant in Barcelona

Barcelona, but Spain as whole, is a place where food is art. But Barcelona is not only tapas or Ferran Adría. Barcelona is a sweet city and it could not miss a restaurant exclusively dedicated to sweeten the palate.

Luxury restaurants in Barcelona

Espaisucre is the caprice of Jordi Butrón and partners’ Xano Saguer, Guillem Vicente and Reme Butrón, all promoters and developers of a new way of conceiving restaurant-style pastry cooking.
This team opens in February 2000 the only dessert restaurant in the world, marrying this risky but meditated idea with the school of restaurant-style desserts. Here, taste becomes the absolute priority, the remaining variables (technique, arrangement on the plate, aesthetics, etc.) are vehicles, means and not ends. Espaisucre should mark tastes being true to the original taste.
Flavour is the priority. The other variables are complementary means of increasing quality, remaining faithful to the original flavour.
Contrasted flavours are distinguished to tone down the different sugar components. The range of tasty possibilities is widened (sweet, salty, bitter, acidity, spicy, sweet and sour…).
The use of new techniques, products and tools, permit a better control over the flavour (mycryo, oveneve, roner, gels, dried fruit paste, dehydrated, paco-jet…). In addition, to the old pastry techniques and the respect for tradition. Choosing the right technique for each ingredient is crucial, bearing in mind the specific food components.

The restaurant dessert, Espaisucre, not only is the perfect conjunction between flavour, technique and arrangement on the plate valued, but there are intangible elements that may transform it into something more complex.
This team conceives pastry as a permanent training either technically or gustatorily, always according to an innovative attitude, but at the same time to respect towards tradition understood as an indispensable ingredient of progress.
Espaisucre restaurant is at calle princesa 53, in the Born Quarter. All info and the sweet menú on the official webpage of Espaisucre.

Antoni Tàpies from the inside

Jointly organised by the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya and the Fundació Antoni Tàpies and curated by Vicent Todolí, Tàpies. From the Inside will present about 100 works from the artist’s studio and from the Fundació Antoni Tàpies collection.

Antoni Tàpies Foundation

This large retrospective exhibition will take us from the first paintings in the 1940s, under the influence of various avant-garde trends and his participation in the Dau al Set group, to the ones he did shortly before his death in 2011. Thanks to the collaboration of the Tàpies family, this exhibition will allow an in-depth understanding of the legacy of the painter’s studio and unearth works that had remained virtually unseen or, in some cases, even unknown.

From the earliest works, Tàpies embarked on an aesthetic research which involved experimenting with materials and forms, leading in the 1950s to the ‘matter’ paintings that earned him his international reputation. During that period, he placed his hopes in an art that made an impact on the public, that shook people up. From that moment on, for the rest of his life, Tàpies continued experimenting tirelessly, even obsessively, developing his iconography, his vocabulary made up of varied signs and materials, colours and recognisable objects.

The exhibition From Inside is being presented from juny 2013 in Barcelona at two sites, the Fundació Antoni Tàpies and the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya. It will then go on show at different international museums.

National Museum of Catalonia

Antoni Tàpies died a year ago. He was a catalan painter, sculptor and art theorist, who became one of the most famous European artists of his generation. Antoni Tapies even is one of the most important witnesses of the Barcelona artistic and creativity mood. 080 Barcelona Fashion

From 28th to 31 January 2013 the Disseny Hub Barcelona (DHUB) Barcelona will host the 10th edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion, an independent fashion designers expo. An international jury will award the prize to the best new collection made by independant designers.

080 Barcelona Fashion

080 Barcelona Fashion aims to turn Barcelona and Catalonia into a benchmark for creativity, innovation and both design generation and projection in the fashion industry, in the broadest sense of the word. Catalonia and the city of Barcelona have a long tradition in the textile industry for centuries, and the current situation allows us to talk about a consolidation of the design with a distinctive sign, in various fashion areas, such as production, distribution, sales, as well as their promotion.
This is the commitment of the government of the Generalitat de Catalunya, a government that believes in companies and provides them a platform to achieve international projection.
Fashion, as it is widely know, is about culture and lives intensely in the city of Barcelona. Custo Barcelona, Mango, Desigual and many more local brands will partecipate at the event.

080 Barcelona Fashion organizes the second edition of the 080 Design Contest a contest in collaboration with a number of Catalan fashion design schools. This competition will provide 080 Barcelona Fashion’s own merchandising products.
In this second edition, 080 Barcelona Fashion‘s bag will be selected, a unisex shopping bag. It will be on sale as from the next edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion that will take place in January 2013. All info on the official webpage of the 080 Barcelona Fashion.
