The Liceu Theatre of Barcelona opens its secret rooms

The Liceu Theatre opens its majestic foyer and reading room only until July 29 to the guided tours of the Gran Teatre del Liceu. These dependencies are never been opened to the public.

During the tour, you’ll be able to enjoy the foyer with its spectacular windows representing the tetralogy of ‘The ring of the Nibelungs‘ by Richard Wagner and the elegant marble staircase and brass neat.
Guided tours also incorporate the reading room of the Circle of Liceu, which has had several functions during the life of the theatre: dinner room, then library and now reading and television room. The area is also known for its modernist different and amazing elements.

In September 2012 the Liceu Theatre of Barcelona will host the orchestra, chorus and soloists of the Bayreuth Festival with three operas by Wagner in concert version. This event will be the first activity in a series of cultural events related to the commemoration of the bicentennial of Wagner’s birth.

In the field of opera, the arrival of the 20th century caused a considerable fracture with the tradition that had put down roots in Catalonia. The Wagnerian universe went beyond and permeated all artistic expressions and the Russian opera made its way in the middle of the prevailing Italianated opera. Wagner was there to stay.

The Gran Teatre del Liceu de Barcelona hosted the Bayreuth Wagner Festival in 1955, an event that deeply affected the audiences and made a great impression on the entire city.
