Woody Allen Barcelona
Keeping on with the film topic started in the last article, today it is Barcelona’s turn. Barcelona has been set of several movies, so does Madrid. One of the most remembered ones is “Vicky, Cristina, Barcelona”, filmed by Woody Allen in 2008. The Hollywood stars Scarlett Johanson and the Spanish couple Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz were the main actors.
Allen recognized he is in love with Spain, and Barcelona is one of his favorite cities: “It has a very visual beauty, and its sensibility is very romantic”, he said. The director compared Barcelona with Paris, and thought the film he was creating could only take place in one of them.
The architecture of Barcelona is one of the most important things in the movie, becoming almost another character. Especially the Gaudi’s singular works, such as La Sagrada Familia, remain in the back of a lot of scenes. Also the Güell Park was chosen as a location, where the famous dragon sculpture accompanied two of the characters in their conversation.
Barcelona Airport
Other parts of Barcelona which appear in the film are the port, the Tibidabo amusement park, the Joan Miró museum, the Barcelona’s airport and Las Ramblas. The entire movie transpires Allen’s feelings towards Barcelona: the artist admitted he saw the city as a mix of a European standard and an anarchist underground mysterious.
